How automation rules work
Triggers, flows
Automation rules do the repetitive work for you, such as sending a welcome email the moment a parent downloads your free guide. Here is how they work.
- Click the Automations tab, then Rules.
- Click Create. The rule has two columns: Trigger and Action.
The trigger
The trigger is what starts the rule. Click the + icon and choose one. Ask yourself who should receive the emails:
- Parents who signed up on your form or popup: choose Funnel step form subscribed and pick your page.
- Parents who bought from you: choose New sale.
- Contacts who received a certain tag: choose Tag added. The tag needs to be added after you create the rule.
The Email link clicked trigger waits 1 minute after the first click before it can run again. This stops double clicks, or security checks by email providers such as Gmail, from running it twice.
The action
The action is what happens next. Click the blue + icon next to Action and choose one. To send a welcome email, choose Send email and click + to write it.
Click Save rule.
You can also create automation rules inside your funnel steps.
The same contact can start a trigger up to 20 times. After the 20th, rules and workflows stop running for this contact.
The task history of automation rules is kept for one month. Older tasks are removed, so a task older than 30 days will not show on a contact's profile.
