Why is my student's activity log file damaged?

Exported a student's activity log and the file will not open? Special characters are usually the reason.
The log is an .xls file, and this format cannot handle special characters such as emojis. If your course, module or lecture titles include emojis, Excel cannot display them and shows an error when you open the file.
